Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, you can start your journey from Pokhara, which is a popular city in the Himalayas. From Pokhara, drive east on the Siddhartha Highway (approximately 200 km) towards Butwal. Once you reach Butwal, follow the signs to the Muktinath area. The journey takes about 7-8 hours, depending on road conditions. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, as the roads can be challenging, especially in the mountains. You may need to park your car in Jomsom, where further travel to Muktinath will be on foot or by local transport.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  For those opting for public transport, take a bus from Pokhara to Beni. The bus journey typically lasts around 6-7 hours. Upon reaching Beni, you need to transfer to a local jeep or bus that will take you to Jomsom. This leg of the trip may take an additional 1.5-2 hours. From Jomsom, you can hire a taxi or take a local bus to Muktinath, which is approximately 20 km away. Be prepared for an additional hour of travel. Ensure to check the bus schedules as they can vary.

• Local Jeep

  Once in Jomsom, you will find local jeeps that regularly travel to Muktinath. The fare for a jeep ride is approximately NPR 500-800 per person. The journey usually takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on road conditions. It is advisable to negotiate the fare beforehand or check for shared rides to keep costs down.

• Hiking

  For the adventurous spirit, you can consider hiking from Jomsom to Muktinath. The trek is around 20 km and can take approximately 6-7 hours. The trail offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and culture. Ensure you are well-prepared with adequate gear, water, and snacks, as there are limited facilities along the way.
