Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from the Sarnath area, head south on Dharmapala Road. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with National Highway 19. The Ashoka Pillar will be located a short distance ahead on your left side, near the Sarnath Museum.

    From the Sarnath Bus Station, exit the station and turn left onto Dharmapala Road. Walk straight for about 1 kilometer until you see the sign for the Ashoka Pillar. Follow the road as it curves left, and you will find the pillar just ahead.

    If you are coming from the Sarnath Railway Station, exit the station and take a right onto the main road. Walk approximately 1.5 kilometers straight down until you reach a T-junction. Turn left onto Dharmapala Road and continue for another 500 meters to find the Ashoka Pillar on your left.

    You can take a cycle rickshaw from anywhere in Sarnath to Ashoka Pillar. Just tell the rickshaw driver 'Ashoka Pillar' and they will take you directly there. It should cost around 30-50 INR depending on your starting point.
