To reach the Newberry Library at 60 W Walton St, Chicago from Gary, you can take the South Shore Line train from Gary Metro Center. Board the train heading towards Millennium Station in Chicago. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes. Once you arrive at Millennium Station, exit the station and walk to the 'State & Lake' stop for the 'L' train. Take the Brown Line towards Kimball and get off at the Chicago Avenue stop. From there, walk west on Chicago Avenue for about 0.4 miles until you reach North State Street. Turn left on North State Street and walk south for a block until you reach Walton Street. Turn right onto Walton Street, and the Newberry Library will be on your left at 60 W Walton St.

The journey will take approximately 45 minutes depending on traffic.
