From downtown Gary, head to the nearest bus stop where you can catch the Gary Public Transit bus line. Board the bus heading towards the Gary Metro Center. Once at the Metro Center, transfer to the South Shore Line train towards Chicago. After approximately a 30-minute ride, get off at the 47th Street station in Chicago. From the station, walk 10 minutes east towards W Exchange Ave, then turn left onto S Peoria St. The Union Stockyards Gate will be on your right.

If you are at the Gary Public Library, start by walking south on Washington St until you reach 5th Ave. Turn right onto 5th Ave and continue until you reach the intersection with Broadway. Take a left onto Broadway and walk towards the South Shore Line train station. From there, follow the public transit instructions for the best route to the Union Stockyards Gate.
