Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, start by entering Hoosier National Forest and head towards Utopia Road. From the center of the forest, take the nearest route to Utopia Rd. Once on Utopia Rd, continue for approximately 10 miles. You will pass through scenic areas of the forest, so take your time. Keep an eye out for the sign that indicates the Mogan Ridge East Trailhead, which is located at 14105 Utopia Rd, Derby, IN 47525. The trailhead will be on your left. There is no parking fee at this trailhead.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options may be limited in this rural area. If you are staying in a nearby city like Bloomington or Jasper, you can take a Greyhound bus or regional transit service to reach those cities. From there, you would need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to Mogan Ridge East Trailhead. Make sure to book your ride in advance, as services may not be frequent. The distance from Jasper to the trailhead is approximately 30 miles.

• Biking/Walking

  For those who are adventurous and within a reasonable distance, consider biking or walking from nearby campgrounds or lodges within Hoosier National Forest. Ensure you have a good map of the area, as trails can vary. The direct path to the trailhead might not be well-marked, so be prepared to navigate through the forest trails. Bring plenty of water and snacks, as this journey can take several hours depending on your starting point.
