Car
If you are driving from Bukit Lawang to Tangkahan Camp, start by heading east on Jl. Lintas Sumatera towards Stabat. Continue on this road for approximately 20 kilometers until you reach a fork. Keep to the left to stay on Jl. Lintas Sumatera. After about 5 kilometers, you will see signs for Namu Sialang. Turn left onto the dirt road heading towards the camp site. Follow this road for about 3 kilometers until you reach Tangkahan Camp. Make sure to watch out for potholes and other vehicles on this unpaved road.

Public Transportation
To reach Tangkahan Camp from Bukit Lawang using public transportation, first take a local minivan (often referred to as 'angkot') from Bukit Lawang to Stabat. The fare is typically around 10,000 IDR per person. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Stabat, you will need to hire a motorcycle taxi (ojek) or a local car to take you the remaining 10 kilometers to Tangkahan Camp. The motorcycle taxi fare should be around 20,000-30,000 IDR, while a car hire may cost around 100,000 IDR, depending on negotiations. Make sure to confirm the fare before starting your journey.

If you prefer a more comfortable option, you can arrange for a taxi from Bukit Lawang directly to Tangkahan Camp. This option is more expensive, typically costing around 250,000 IDR for the one-way trip. Ensure you book a reputable taxi service and agree on the fare beforehand. The ride will take approximately 1 hour via the Jl. Lintas Sumatera route.
