Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you're traveling by car, start your journey in Palangkaraya, the capital of Central Kalimantan. Head south on the Trans Kalimantan Highway (Route 1) towards the town of Banjarmasin. This will take approximately 5-6 hours depending on traffic. Once in Banjarmasin, continue on Route 1 towards the border of West Kalimantan. Follow the signs to Singkawang, which is about a 3-4 hour drive. Upon reaching Singkawang City, navigate to Sedau in the Singkawang Selatan district, where Tanjung Baja is located. Ensure you have a GPS or a reliable map app as the final stretches can be tricky.
Bus
For public transportation, take a bus from Palangkaraya to Banjarmasin. Several companies operate this route, and the journey takes about 8 hours. Once you arrive in Banjarmasin, find a local bus or minivan heading to Singkawang. This leg of the journey will take approximately 3-4 hours. After reaching Singkawang, you may need to hire a local taxi or ojek (motorcycle taxi) to reach Tanjung Baja in the Sedau area. Make sure to confirm the fare before starting the ride.
Taxi/Ojek
Once you arrive in Singkawang City, you may not find direct public transportation to Tanjung Baja. In this case, hiring a local taxi or ojek (motorcycle taxi) is advisable. You can ask your bus driver or locals for recommendations on where to find a taxi. The fare for this short trip should be negotiated beforehand, but expect to pay around IDR 50,000 to 100,000 depending on the distance and your bargaining skills.
