Car
If you are starting from Jayapura, head southwest on Jl. Raya Abepura. Continue for about 2.5 hours until you reach the town of Sentani. From there, take the road towards the town of Wamena. The journey will take approximately 5-6 hours, and you will encounter some rough patches, so a 4WD vehicle is recommended. Once in Wamena, follow signs to Yakapis, which is about 1-2 hours away. The final destination is at the coordinates 9XCF+33V, Yakapis, Papua.
Public Transportation (Bus)
Begin your journey at the Jayapura bus terminal, where you can catch a bus heading to Wamena. The bus ride will take around 6-8 hours, depending on road conditions. Make sure to confirm the bus schedule in advance as they may not run frequently. Once in Wamena, you will need to hire a local taxi or an ojek (motorcycle taxi) to take you to Yakapis, which is about 1-2 hours away from Wamena. The total fare for a taxi from Wamena to Yakapis can be around 300,000 IDR.
Private Driver
For a more comfortable option, consider hiring a private driver from Jayapura to Yakapis. This can be arranged through local travel agencies. The trip will take approximately 8-10 hours, including breaks. Expect to pay around 1,500,000 IDR for the entire trip. Ensure to discuss the itinerary and any additional stops you may want to make along the way, as well as confirming the driver's experience with the route.
Flight and Taxi
If you prefer to minimize travel time, consider taking a domestic flight from Jayapura to Wamena, which takes about 40 minutes. Airlines such as Susi Air operate this route, so check their schedule and book in advance. Once you arrive in Wamena, hire a taxi or ojek for the 1-2 hour journey to Yakapis. The flight may cost around 1,500,000 IDR, and the taxi fare will be an additional 300,000 IDR.
