Car
To reach Borneo by car, start from the capital city of East Kalimantan, Samarinda. Head south on Jalan Pahlawan until you reach the Balikpapan-Samarinda Highway (also known as Jalan Soekarno-Hatta). Continue along this highway for about 150 kilometers. As you approach Balikpapan, you will find signs directing you towards the ferry terminal. The ferry will take you across to Borneo. Be prepared for the ferry fee, which is approximately 25,000 IDR per person and 100,000 IDR for a car.
Public Transportation - Bus
If you prefer public transport, from Samarinda, take a bus to Balikpapan. Buses frequently leave from the main bus terminal in Samarinda and the journey takes about 2-3 hours, costing around 50,000 IDR. Once you arrive in Balikpapan, head to the ferry terminal located in the city. The ferry ticket to Borneo costs about 25,000 IDR per person. Be sure to check the ferry schedule upon arrival, as it can vary.
