If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest major city, such as Mount Hagen. Follow the road signs towards the Highlands Highway (A1) heading northeast. Continue for approximately 140 kilometers until you reach the junction to the Bamus area. Take the turnoff towards Bamus and continue driving for another 30 kilometers, where you'll find the entrance to the Bamus Volcano area. Be prepared for unpaved roads; a 4WD vehicle is recommended.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can catch a bus from Mount Hagen to Bamus. The buses typically leave from the main bus station; ensure to confirm the exact route, as some may not go directly to Bamus. The journey will take approximately 3-4 hours. Once you arrive at Bamus, you may need to hire a local taxi or arrange for a motorbike taxi to reach the base of the volcano. Expect to pay around 20,000 to 50,000 IDR for the taxi ride.
