Car Rental
If you have access to a rental car, begin your journey from Wamena, the main city in the Highlands of Papua. Head southeast on Jalan Puncak Jaya (also known as Jalan Raya Wamena) for approximately 30 kilometers. Follow the signs for Usilimo. As you approach Usilimo, keep an eye out for a turnoff marked for Gua Lokale. The site is located near the coordinates 3VHC+6R, Usilimo, Wesaput, Jayawijaya Regency. Be aware that the roads may be unpaved in some areas and can get muddy during the rainy season.
Public Transportation (Minibus)
From Wamena, you can take a minibus to Usilimo. Minibuses usually depart from the central bus station in Wamena. The fare should be around IDR 20,000 to IDR 50,000 depending on the number of passengers. The journey to Usilimo takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. Once you reach Usilimo, you can ask locals for directions to Gua Lokale; it is a well-known site in the area. Be prepared for a short walk from the minibus drop-off point to the cave entrance.
Motorcycle Taxi (Ojek)
If you prefer a more direct route after reaching Usilimo, you can hire a motorcycle taxi (ojek) for a quick ride to Gua Lokale. The fare for an ojek ride should be around IDR 15,000 to IDR 30,000, depending on the distance and negotiation. Ensure you are clear about your destination to the driver, and don’t hesitate to ask the locals for assistance in finding an ojek.
Use Gua lokale as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
