If you are traveling by car, head towards Banyuwangi Regency in East Java. From the city of Banyuwangi, take the Jl. Raya Banyuwangi road towards Licin. Follow the signs to Ijen Crater. After about 30 km, you will reach the Ijen entrance gate. Be prepared for a bumpy road as you drive up to the Ijen Crater area, where parking is available. The entrance fee is approximately IDR 100,000 per person.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, catch a bus from Surabaya to Banyuwangi. The journey takes about 8-10 hours. Once in Banyuwangi, you can take a local minibus (angkot) or taxi to Licin. From Licin, you will need to arrange a local transport (such as a shared jeep) to take you to the Ijen Crater entrance. The cost for the jeep can vary but expect to pay about IDR 150,000-200,000 per person if shared.
Hiking
From the Ijen entrance, a hike of approximately 3 kilometers will take you to the crater. The hike is steep and can take about 1-2 hours depending on your fitness level. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight if you plan to visit the Blue Flames at night, as the best time to see them is between 2 AM and 4 AM.
