Car
If you are driving from the main tourist areas around Lake Toba, head towards Samosir Island. You can take the ferry from Parapat to Samosir, which costs around IDR 10,000 to IDR 20,000 per person. Once on Samosir, drive towards the northern part of the island. Follow the main road leading to Tuktuk, and then continue north towards Ronggur Nihuta. Look for signs indicating 'Salaon Toba' which will lead you closer to Lake Sidihoni. Ensure to keep a physical map or GPS handy as signage can be limited.
Public Transportation
From any location around Lake Toba, take a local bus or a minivan towards Parapat. The fare is typically around IDR 20,000 to IDR 30,000. Once you reach Parapat, catch the ferry to Samosir Island. Upon arrival at Samosir, take a local bemo (shared minibus) towards Tuktuk and then ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest point to Salaon Toba. You might need to walk a short distance to reach Lake Sidihoni from there.
Taxi
For a more comfortable journey, consider hiring a taxi from your accommodation in Samosir. Negotiate the fare beforehand; it should cost around IDR 150,000 to IDR 250,000 depending on your starting point. The taxi will take you directly to Lake Sidihoni, which is a more convenient option if you are traveling with luggage or in a group.
