Car
If you are starting your journey from Ambon, the capital of Maluku Islands, you will first need to drive to the nearest port, which is the Tulehu Port. The drive should take about 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic. Once you reach Tulehu Port, you will need to purchase a ticket for a ferry to Tehoru on the Seram Island. The ferry ride takes approximately 2 hours. After arriving at Tehoru, you will need to drive south to the Sawai Port, which is about a 45-minute drive. From Sawai, you can take a speedboat to the Kai Islands; this trip will take around 1.5 to 2 hours. Ensure you check the ferry and speedboat schedules in advance, as they can vary. Expect to pay around IDR 50,000 to IDR 100,000 for the ferry and IDR 200,000 to IDR 300,000 for the speedboat.
Public Transportation
Start your journey in Ambon by taking a minibus to Tulehu Port. This trip will cost around IDR 10,000 and takes about 30 minutes. Once at Tulehu, purchase your ticket for the ferry to Tehoru on Seram Island. The ferry ride lasts about 2 hours and costs between IDR 50,000 to IDR 100,000. After reaching Tehoru, you can catch another minibus to Sawai, which will take around 1 hour and costs about IDR 20,000. At Sawai Port, you can book a seat on a speedboat to the Kai Islands, which takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and costs around IDR 200,000 to IDR 300,000.
