Getting there

Car

If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest town, Probolinggo, which is about 33 km from Gunung Bromo. Follow the Jl. Raya Bromo road towards Tosari. After about 28 km, you will reach the entrance to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. There is an entrance fee of approximately IDR 29,000 per person. After paying the entrance fee, continue on the road to Cemoro Lawang village, which is the main access point to Gunung Bromo. The road can be steep and winding, so drive cautiously.

Public Transportation

For those using public transportation, take a bus or minivan from Probolinggo to Cemoro Lawang. The journey typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours and costs about IDR 35,000. Buses leave from the Probolinggo bus terminal. Inform the driver that you want to stop at Cemoro Lawang for Gunung Bromo. Once you arrive in Cemoro Lawang, you may need to hire a local jeep or motorcycle taxi to reach the viewpoint areas of Gunung Bromo, especially if you want to catch the sunrise.

Jeep

From Cemoro Lawang, you can hire a jeep to take you to the crater of Gunung Bromo. The jeep ride costs around IDR 400,000 to IDR 600,000 per vehicle, accommodating up to 5 people. The jeep ride is necessary to navigate the sandy terrain leading to the crater area. Be sure to negotiate the fare beforehand and arrange for a return trip, as the jeeps are often in high demand during sunrise.

Walking

If you're feeling adventurous and want to experience the stunning landscape up close, you can choose to hike from Cemoro Lawang to the crater of Gunung Bromo. The hike takes about 1-1.5 hours and is about 3 km long. Make sure to wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water, as the trail can be steep and sandy.
