The 4WD vehicle will take you through a rough terrain to the viewpoint area near the crater. Once you arrive, you can walk the remaining distance to the crater's edge, which is about a 1.5 km walk up a steep path.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus or minivan from Surabaya or Malang to Probolinggo. The fare typically ranges between IDR 50,000 - IDR 100,000. From Probolinggo, take a local bus or shared minivan to Cemoro Lawang (costing around IDR 30,000 - IDR 50,000). Once in Cemoro Lawang, you will need to hire a 4WD vehicle to reach Kawah Gunung Bromo (approximately IDR 400,000 - IDR 600,000 for a round trip). After reaching the drop-off point, walk the remaining 1.5 km to the crater.
