Car
If you are driving from Balikpapan, take the Trans Kalimantan Highway (Route 1) heading south. Continue along the highway for approximately 440 kilometers until you reach the city of Marabahan. Once in Marabahan, follow local signs to Sungai Negara, which is located just outside the city center. The journey will take around 7-8 hours, depending on traffic. Ensure to fill up on fuel before leaving as there are limited stations along the highway.

Public Transportation - Bus
From Balikpapan, head to the bus terminal (Terminal Batu Ampar) and catch a bus heading to Banjarmasin. The bus ride takes about 10-12 hours. Once you arrive at Banjarmasin's bus terminal, transfer to a local minibus or ojek (motorcycle taxi) towards Marabahan. The minibus ride will take around 1-1.5 hours. After reaching Marabahan, ask locals for directions to Sungai Negara, which is a short distance from the center of town.

Another option from Balikpapan is to take a shared taxi (angkot) to Banjarmasin. Shared taxis usually leave when full and provide a quicker journey compared to buses, taking around 8-9 hours. From Banjarmasin, you can take a local bus or ojek to Marabahan, and then navigate to Sungai Negara. The total cost for the shared taxi to Banjarmasin is approximately IDR 150,000 to IDR 200,000, and the local transport to Marabahan will cost around IDR 20,000.
