Car
If you're driving, start from the city of Ternate. Head south on the main road towards Sofifi, which is about a 1.5-hour drive. Once in Sofifi, take the ferry to Obi Island. The ferry ride takes approximately 1 hour and costs around IDR 30,000. After arriving at Obi Island, continue driving to Kawasi, which is about a 30-minute drive from the ferry terminal. Follow the signs to Kawasi, and once in the village, ask locals for directions to Pulau Malamala.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a minibus or shared taxi from Ternate to Sofifi. The fare is typically around IDR 20,000. Upon arrival in Sofifi, board the ferry to Obi Island. The ferry ticket costs about IDR 30,000. Once you reach Obi Island, you can hire a local taxi or take another minibus to Kawasi. This journey will take about 30 minutes. It's advisable to confirm with the driver that you are heading to Kawasi. Once in Kawasi, ask locals to guide you to Pulau Malamala.
Ferry
After reaching Obi Island, the final leg to Pulau Malamala is by local boat. You can hire a traditional fishing boat or ask locals for a ride. Make sure to negotiate the price beforehand; it usually ranges from IDR 100,000 to IDR 200,000 depending on the distance and the type of boat. The boat ride will take about 20-30 minutes, and you will be dropped off directly at Pulau Malamala.
