Car
If you are traveling by car, head north on the Historic Hills Scenic Byway (IA-17) from your current location. Continue on IA-17 for approximately 18 miles until you reach the intersection with IA-7. Turn left onto IA-7 and continue for about 5 miles. Then, turn right onto Brushy Creek Road (you will see signs for Brushy Creek State Recreation Area). Follow Brushy Creek Road for about 1 mile until you see the entrance to the recreation area on your left. There is no entrance fee for the park.

Public transportation options may be limited in the area. However, you can take a bus service to the nearest town, which is Lehigh. Once in Lehigh, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you the remaining 3 miles to Brushy Creek State Recreation Area. Be sure to check local bus schedules for availability, as services may not run frequently.

For those who prefer cycling, you can bike along the Historic Hills Scenic Byway (IA-17). The route is a scenic ride of about 18 miles from the nearest town. The roads are generally safe for cycling, but be cautious of traffic. Once you arrive at the intersection with IA-7, turn left and follow the same route as cars to reach Brushy Creek Road. The area is bike-friendly, and there are places to park your bike once you arrive.

Walking to Brushy Creek State Recreation Area is not practical due to the distance and lack of sidewalks along the roads. However, if you are staying nearby, consider walking along Brushy Creek Road once you get close to the area. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially during warmer months.
