From Winterset, head approximately 3 miles northeast on Cedar Bridge Trail. Begin by traveling east on State Highway 92 for about half a mile, then turn north onto Cedar Bridge Trail for approximately 1.75 miles. The route is marked with standard County Park arrowhead roadside signs on Cedar Bridge Trail. Note that the final approach involves driving on gravel roads. Parking is available in a small, free gravel lot near the bridge.

The Cedar Covered Bridge, situated in a serene park setting near Winterset, Iowa, is one of the six remaining covered bridges in Madison County. Originally constructed in 1883 by Harvey P. Jones, the bridge has undergone several transformations throughout its history. It was initially built over the North River (also known as Casper Bridge) before being moved to its current location over Cedar Creek in 1921.Cedar Bridge is known as the only covered bridge in Madison County that you can still drive through. The bridge's image graces the cover of many editions of Robert James Waller's novel, *The Bridges of Madison County*. The bridge has been rebuilt twice due to arson. The current replica was completed in 2019.Today, the Cedar Covered Bridge is the centerpiece of Cedar Bridge Park, a 27-acre site that attracts tourists year-round. The park features brick walkways, Victorian-era gazebos, and wildflower gardens, making it a popular destination for weddings and picnics. Visitors can immerse themselves in the tranquility of the surroundings, appreciate the craftsmanship of the bridge, and learn about its storied past.
