Discover more about Grandview Park Bandshell

Grandview Park Bandshell stands as a testament to Sioux City's vibrant past and enduring community spirit. Constructed in 1934 during the Great Depression, the bandshell quickly became a focal point for musical performances and public gatherings. Designed by local architect Henry L. Kamphoefner, the bandshell showcases Streamline Moderne architecture, characterized by its bold geometric shapes and aerodynamic appearance. The bandshell's construction was a community effort, spearheaded by the Monahan Post Band, who raised funds to build a music shell in Grandview Park. The project gained further support when the city applied to President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Civil Works Administration (CWA). The structure required significant materials, including 52 tons of reinforced steel and thousands of bags of cement. The bandshell was dedicated in the spring of 1935 and the Monahan Post Band played there until 1948 when they became the Sioux City Municipal Band. The tradition continues to this day. With seating for 5,000 in its natural amphitheater, the bandshell has hosted countless performances over the years. Today, Grandview Park continues to be a beloved destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a space to enjoy music, nature, and community events such as 'Saturday in the Park'. The park also features a rose garden created in 1937 with over 100 varieties of roses, and a Lincoln statue donated in 1924.
