Pikes Point State Park: A Lakeside Retreat

Discover lakeside bliss at Pikes Point State Park: swimming, picnicking, and historic charm on the shores of West Okoboji Lake in the Iowa Great Lakes region.

4.5

Pikes Point State Park, a 15-acre gem on West Okoboji Lake, has been a beloved destination since its dedication as a state park in 1931. The park's location on a point of land provides stunning lake views and a refreshing atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including swimming at one of the area's most popular beaches, fishing for walleye, northern pike, and bass, and boating on the clear waters of West Okoboji Lake. Pikes Point is also an ideal spot for a family picnic, with shaded picnic tables and a reservable CCC-era stone shelter. This rustic shelter, built in 1934, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features a fireplace and stone benches, offering a glimpse into the park's history. While Pikes Point State Park itself doesn't offer camping, its proximity to other state parks and private campgrounds in the Iowa Great Lakes region makes it a convenient base for exploring the area. The park's concessions, open from Memorial Day weekend through the third Sunday in October, sell souvenirs, snacks, and camping supplies. Pikes Point State Park provides a charming and accessible getaway for those seeking natural beauty and outdoor fun.
