    Rising from Minare Park in western Erbil, the Mudhafaria Minaret stands as a proud testament to the city's rich history. Constructed between 1190 and 1232 AD by the Turkoman prince Muzaffar Al-Din Abu Sa'eed Al-Kawkaboori, during the reign of Salahadin, the minaret is believed to be the only remaining structure of a once-thriving mosque complex.The minaret's design is a captivating blend of an octagonal base and a cylindrical shaft, reaching a height of 36 meters. The base features two tiers of niches with pointed arches, adorned with rectangular frames. The balcony parapet boasts twenty-four small niches, adding to the structure's regal charm. Inside, a double helix staircase, said to be designed by two competing architects, ascends to the balcony. The shaft is decorated with bands of interlocking diagonal Hazar-Baf motifs and Kufi calligraphy, displaying the names of Muhammad and Mas'oudi Muhammadi, the minaret's builders.Over the centuries, the Mudhafaria Minaret has served various purposes, including monitoring the sky for important Islamic occasions and acting as a defensive structure to warn against approaching threats.
