It was initially conceived as a VIP facility but has since evolved into a bustling public and military airport.Following the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, the airport underwent refurbishment, reopening in June 2004. Despite initial challenges with basic amenities, ongoing reconstruction efforts continue to improve the facilities. Today, Basra International Airport is the fourth-busiest airport in Iraq in terms of passenger traffic and aircraft operations.Travelers can find essential facilities such as waiting areas, restrooms, information desks, a café, mini markets, and duty-free shops.
