Getting there

Walking

If you are starting from the Erbil Citadel, head east on Qasr Shirin Street until you reach the intersection with 40m Street. Turn left onto 40m Street and continue straight for about 1.5 kilometers. You will pass several shops and cafes. When you reach the roundabout, take the second exit onto Azadi Street. Continue straight for another 800 meters, and you will find Peshmarga Park on your right side.

Public Transport

To reach Peshmarga Park via public transportation, take a local minibus or taxi from any central location in Erbil. Look for minibuses heading toward the Erbil Park area or ask for one that goes to Peshmarga Park. The fare is typically around 500 to 1,000 IQD per person.

Overview

Peshmarga Park, located in the heart of Erbil, is a sprawling green space offering a refreshing escape from the bustling city. This park is a blend of natural beauty and recreational amenities, making it an ideal destination for locals and tourists. The park's vibrant atmosphere is enhanced by the laughter of children and families enjoying their time outdoors.Historically, the park was the base for the Iraqi Army's Fifth Corps during Saddam Hussein's era, a site where Kurdish people were tortured and killed. In 1998, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) began cleaning up the area, opening the first phase of the park in 2000. It is now named after Sami Abdulrahman, KRG's former deputy premier who was killed in a 2004 suicide bombing. Today, Peshmarga Park welcomes thousands of visitors daily and is considered one of the biggest parks in the Middle East.
