Located in the Sheikh Maarouf Cemetery in the Karkh district, this historic shrine is often mistakenly attributed to Zubaida bint Ja'far, the wife of Caliph Harun al-Rashid. However, historical research suggests the tomb is dedicated to Zumurrud Khatun, the Turkish mother of the Abbasid Caliph Nasir Li-Din Allah, who died in 1202. The mausoleum showcases exquisite Islamic design, featuring intricate tile work and captivating domes that attract visitors. The tomb's architecture includes a nine-layered, cone-shaped muqarnas cover capped by a small cupola, rising from an octagonal base. Hazarbaf decoration adorns the exterior, and the light inside the vault emanates from small holes cut in the muqarnas dome, creating a glowing effect.
