Sarjanar Resort: Sulaymaniyah's Lush Retreat

Sarjanar Resort, situated approximately 5 kilometers west of Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, has been a celebrated recreational area since the city's early days. This picturesque resort is characterized by its natural spring and river, complemented by woodlands and parks. Once located outside the city, Sarjanar has become a part of Sulaymaniyah's northwestern district due to urban expansion. The resort's cool climate and refreshing air attract thousands of visitors from across Iraq throughout the year. The valley is abundant with trees and gardens, featuring a freshwater stream originating from a highland at the valley's end. As Kurdistan's first tourist resort, Sarjanar boasts numerous hotels, motels, restaurants, and tourist facilities. In 1919, a wealthy resident of Sulaymaniyah purchased the upper part of the valley, which then spanned 32 dunams (approximately 8 acres). The area was enhanced with additional trees and greenery, making it a focal point for locals who frequented it on foot from the early 20th century. The state later acquired the resort and converted it into an official tourist destination. Today, Sarjanar covers 13 dunams, with greenery covering 80% of its area, making it the greenest space in the Kurdistan Region. Visitors can enjoy gardens, diverse flowers, fountains, and the gentle river flowing through the landscape. Modern amenities include restaurants, recreational facilities, and children's play areas, ensuring a memorable experience for all.
