Public Transport
From Erbil's main bus station, take a bus or shared taxi towards Duhok. Inform the driver you wish to get off at Goratu. This typically takes about 1 hour and costs approximately 2,000 to 3,000 Iraqi Dinar. From Goratu, you can walk approximately 3 kilometers to Shanidar Cave or negotiate a taxi fare with a local driver.

From Erbil, take the Erbil-Sulaymaniyah Road southwest. Continue for about 45 kilometers until you reach a junction. Take the exit towards Goratu. Follow the local roads for approximately 10 kilometers until you see signs for Shanidar Cave. Parking is available near the cave entrance.
