Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from Athlone Town Centre, head southeast on Church St towards Pearse St. Continue straight onto the N61 (also known as the Athlone Bypass). Follow this road for about 1.5 km. You will pass the Athlone Castle on your left side. As you approach the roundabout, take the second exit to stay on N61. After about 200 meters, turn left onto Coosan Road. The Franciscan Abbey and Graveyard will be on your left at 1 Coosan Road.

    From Athlone Bus Station, take Bus Route 23 towards Ballinasloe. Get off at the Coosan Road stop. Once you get off the bus, walk about 300 meters down Coosan Road towards the direction of the town center. The Franciscan Abbey and Graveyard will be on your right side at 1 Coosan Road.

    If you have access to a bicycle, start at Athlone Town Centre and head southeast on Church St. Continue onto N61 (Athlone Bypass) and cycle straight for about 1.5 km.
