Jameson Distillery Bow St: A Whiskey Heritage

Located just off Smithfield Square in Dublin, the Jameson Distillery Bow St. is more than just a tourist attraction; it's a journey into the heart of Irish whiskey history. Established in 1780 by John Jameson, the distillery thrived for nearly two centuries, becoming an integral part of Dublin's identity. Originally known as the Bow Street Distillery, John Jameson took full ownership in 1805 and expanded the distillery. By the 1880s, it had grown into a sprawling complex, a 'city within a city,' employing hundreds of workers and encompassing various workshops. Despite facing challenges such as American Prohibition and trade wars, the distillery persevered until its closure in 1971, when production moved to the New Midleton Distillery in County Cork. In 1997, the Bow St. Distillery was reborn as a visitor center, allowing guests to explore the original site and delve into the world of Jameson. Visitors can take guided tours, participate in whiskey tastings, and even learn the art of whiskey blending. The Bow St. Experience tour is a popular option, providing a 45-minute guided tour with comparative tastings of Jameson whiskeys and a signature cocktail. Other experiences include cocktail-making classes and secret whiskey tastings. The distillery also houses JJ's Bar, where visitors can relax and enjoy a Jameson straight from the source, and a gift shop offering a range of Jameson merchandise.
