Discover more about Swan Bar

The Swan Bar, located on 58 York St, Dublin, is more than just a pub; it's a journey back in time. Established in 1723, the current building largely dates back to 1897, making it one of the few remaining intact original Victorian bars in Dublin. The pub's license can be traced back to 1661. Inside, visitors are greeted by a wealth of original Victorian features. The bar itself is made of Scottish granite, chosen to keep drinks cold before refrigeration was common. The floors are covered in intricate mosaic tiles laid by Italian artisans, and the woodwork is primarily mahogany. Though no longer functional, the original bar taps add to the authentic atmosphere. Throughout its history, The Swan has been a silent witness to many of Ireland's most important moments. During the Easter Rising in 1916, the pub was occupied by rebels and used as a signaling post. It also served as a vantage point against British soldiers during the War of Independence. The Lynch family has owned The Swan since 1937. Sean Lynch, a former owner, was an international rugby star who captained Leinster while running the pub. Today, The Swan continues to be a beloved Dublin institution, offering patrons a chance to step back in time and experience the charm of a traditional Victorian pub.
