Discover more about Lough Eske Castle

Nestled on the edge of Lough Eske, at the foot of the Bluestack Mountains, Lough Eske Castle is a stunning blend of history and luxury. The castle's story dates back to the 15th century when it served as a stronghold for the O'Donnell clan. In 1621, the lands were granted to Sir Basil Brooke, marking a shift to English ownership. The Brooke family transformed the castle into a refined residence known as Brookeborough House, introducing Jacobean architectural elements. The castle was redesigned in the Victorian Gothic Revival style in the 1860s by Thomas Brooke. Tragedy struck in 1939 when a fire left it in ruins. For decades, the castle was left abandoned until Harcourt Developments purchased the property in 2006. After an extensive restoration costing over €40 million, Lough Eske Castle reopened as a luxury hotel in 2007. Today, Lough Eske Castle operates as a 5-star hotel managed by the Capella Hotel Group. It offers 97 lavishly decorated rooms and suites, a spa, and dining options. Guests can explore the grounds, fish on the lough, or take a complimentary history tour. The castle provides a serene escape with its blend of historical charm and modern amenities.
