Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre, located in the picturesque coastal town of Dalkey, offers a unique and engaging glimpse into Ireland's past. Originally built in the 14th century as a fortified warehouse for goods being transported to and from Dublin, Dalkey Castle was one of seven castles built by local merchants. Today, it stands as the only remaining intact castle, offering visitors an immersive experience that combines history, theater, and stunning scenery. The castle's history is rich and varied. In the Middle Ages, Dalkey served as Dublin's primary port, and the castle played a vital role in protecting valuable goods such as wine and tobacco. In the 17th century, the castle was acquired by the Cheevers family and became known as 'Goat Castle'. Over the centuries, it has also served as a council chamber and a venue for public meetings and theatrical performances. Visitors to Dalkey Castle can enjoy a 'Living History Tour' led by costumed actors who bring the castle's past to life.
