Discover more about Killiney Hill Park

Killiney Hill Park, encompassing Killiney Hill and Dalkey Hill, is a popular public park providing stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Dedicated to public use in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Jubilee, it was initially named Victoria Hill. From its highest point near the obelisk (170m above sea level), visitors can see Dublin to the northwest, the Irish Sea and, on clear days, the mountains of Wales to the east and southeast, and Bray Head and the Wicklow Mountains to the south. The park's history dates back centuries, with the area once known as Mount Mapas in the early 1600s. The obelisk on the hill, erected in 1742 by John Mapas, commemorates relief efforts during the famine of 1741. The park's landscape includes varied terrain, from steep slopes on the eastern side to more gentle inclines on the western side and the cliffs of Dalkey Quarry. Today, Killiney Hill Park is a favored destination for walkers and hikers. The park features several walking paths, mature woodlands, picnic areas, and rock climbing at Dalkey Quarry. The park is open 24/7 and is free to enter.
