Killary Sheep Farm is located approximately 6km from the village of Leenaun on the N59. From Leenaun, follow the N59 towards Westport. The farm will be signposted on your left. Be aware that the roads leading to the farm are narrow, and caution is advised. Limited parking is available on site.

Public Transport

The Bus Éireann route 423 serves Leenaun. From Leenaun, you would need to take a taxi or walk to the farm, which is approximately 6km away. A taxi from Leenaun to Killary Sheep Farm will cost approximately €15-€20. Walking will take over an hour.

Nestled on the southern shores of Killary Fjord, near Leenaun in County Galway, Killary Sheep Farm provides a captivating glimpse into traditional Connemara life. This working mountain farm, home to approximately 200 ewes and lambs, showcases the enduring practices of sheep farming against the backdrop of breathtaking scenery.Visitors can witness skilled sheepdogs, like Sweep, Lassie, and Fly, herding sheep with precision and agility, demonstrations of sheep shearing using hand shears, and traditional turf cutting. From March to August, there's also the opportunity to bottle-feed orphaned lambs. Tom Nee, a fourth-generation farmer, offers informative demonstrations, providing insight into Connemara life. The farm primarily raises blackhead horned sheep, a breed well-suited to the harsh Connemara winters.Killary Sheep Farm is open to visitors year-round, weather permitting, and it is recommended to call in advance to book a tour. The farm provides outdoor footwear and rainwear. Private tours are available for a more personalized experience. The location along the Wild Atlantic Way makes it an ideal stop for those exploring the natural beauty of Connemara.
