This 5km-long tombolo, a sandy spit jutting into the Atlantic, separates Brandon Bay from Tralee Bay, creating a unique coastal environment. The area is renowned for its long, uninterrupted beaches, extensive dune system, and the crystal-clear waters that surround it. The beach is a designated Special Area of Conservation (SAC), protecting its fragile ecosystem and diverse wildlife. It's a primary habitat for the rare Natterjack Toad, and an important wintering ground for various bird species, including Brent and Barnacle Geese.
