Take the Bus Éireann route 40 from Killarney town to the Muckross House stop. From there, enter Killarney National Park and follow the walking trails towards Gortroe. A single bus fare from Killarney to Muckross House costs approximately €3-5. The walk from the Muckross House bus stop to the river is approximately 2-3 km and takes around 30-45 minutes.

From Killarney town, drive south on the N71 towards Kenmare. After approximately 6 km, look for the entrance to Killarney National Park and follow the signs for Muckross House. Continue past Muckross House, following signs for Gortroe. There are parking areas near Gortroe, from which you can access the walking paths leading to the Owengarriff River. Parking is free within Killarney National Park.
