If you're traveling by car, start your journey in Roscommon town. Head northwest on the N61 and follow the signs for Ballaghaderreen. After approximately 10 kilometers, turn onto the R293 towards Rathcave. Follow this road for about 5 kilometers, and you will arrive at Oweynagat Cave, which is located on the right side of the road. There is limited parking available near the cave entrance.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Roscommon town to Ballaghaderreen, which operates regularly. Upon arriving in Ballaghaderreen, you will need to take a taxi to Oweynagat Cave, as public transport does not serve the cave directly. The taxi ride should take around 15 minutes and cost approximately 15-20 euros. Make sure to check the bus schedules ahead of time to plan your trip.
Walking
If you are already in the vicinity of Rathcave and prefer to walk, Oweynagat Cave is accessible by foot. From the center of Rathcave, head southwest along the R293 road. The cave is about a 30-minute walk from the village center. Be cautious of traffic as this is a rural road with limited footpaths.
