Bus
From Galway city center, head to the Eyre Square bus station. Look for the Bus Éireann service heading towards Cong or Clonbur. These buses run regularly and the journey takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Once you arrive in Cong, disembark at the main bus stop. Ashford Castle is just a 15-minute walk from the bus stop. Head southeast on the main road (Cappacorcoge Road) and follow the signs towards Ashford Castle.
Train and Bus
Take a train from Galway to Castlebar from the Galway train station, which is located near Eyre Square. The train journey takes about 1 hour. Once you arrive at Castlebar station, exit and head to the bus stop just outside the station. Catch a Bus Éireann service that goes to Cong. The bus ride from Castlebar to Cong takes about 30 minutes. From the Cong bus stop, Ashford Castle is a 15-minute walk. Follow the main road (Cappacorcoge Road) southeast until you reach the castle.
Taxi
If you prefer a direct route without multiple transfers, you can take a taxi from Galway city to Ashford Castle. You can easily find taxis at various locations in the city center, especially near Eyre Square. The journey by taxi will take approximately 40 minutes, and you will be taken directly to the castle entrance.
Walking Tour
If you are feeling adventurous and up for a long walk, you can take a scenic route. Start from the city center and walk towards the River Corrib. Follow the riverside path and enjoy the views until you reach the outskirts of Galway. From there, continue heading towards Cong. This will take about 3 hours, but it offers beautiful countryside views and a unique experience of the Irish landscape. Make sure to have a map or use a mobile GPS for guidance.
