Getting there

Car

If you are driving, start from Killarney town center. Head northwest on the N71 road towards Muckross House. After about 5 km, turn left onto the R568 road towards Derrynafunsha. Continue on the R568 for approximately 10 km. You will find Trout Lake on your right-hand side. There is limited parking available near the lake.

Public Transportation

If you are using public transportation, take a bus from Killarney to Kenmare. You can catch the bus at the Killarney Bus Station. Once you arrive in Kenmare, you will need to transfer to a local taxi service to reach Trout Lake, as public transport options are limited in this area. Inform the taxi driver that you want to go to Trout Lake on the R568 road. The taxi fare should be around €15-€20 depending on the distance and time of day.

Walking

If you are already within Killarney National Park and are looking for a hiking option, you can hike to Trout Lake from the Muckross House area. Follow the marked trails heading towards the R568 road. The hike is approximately 6 km and will take around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace. Ensure you have proper hiking gear and check local maps for the best trails leading to Trout Lake.
