Car
From Mizen Head, head northeast on the R591 road. Continue for about 12 kilometers (approximately 15 minutes) until you reach the junction with the N71. Turn left onto the N71 and follow it for about 5 kilometers. At the next roundabout, take the second exit onto the R586. Follow the R586 for about 3 kilometers until you reach a small road on your left. Turn left onto this road (look for signs indicating the direction to Altar Wedge Tomb) and follow it for about 1 kilometer. You will find Altar Wedge Tomb on your right, near the village of Altar. Parking may be available nearby.
Public Transportation
From Mizen Head, take the Bus Éireann route 220 towards Bantry. You may need to check the schedule for the latest timings. Get off at the Bantry Bus Station. From there, you can take the Bus Éireann route 236 towards Altar. This will drop you off near the Altar Wedge Tomb. Please note that the bus services may have limited schedules, so plan your trip accordingly. Be prepared for a short walk (approximately 15 minutes) from the bus stop to the tomb.
Walking/Hiking
If you are feeling adventurous and wish to hike, you can set out on a walking route from Mizen Head. Start by heading northwest along the coastal paths, which will give you stunning views of the ocean. After about 5 kilometers, you can connect with the local roads leading towards Altar. This route is scenic but can take a few hours depending on your pace, so ensure you have appropriate footwear and supplies. It is advisable to carry a map or use a GPS-enabled device for navigation.
