Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Newry, the nearest city. Head northeast on the A1 towards Belfast. After approximately 5 miles, take the exit toward the B8 road. Follow signs for Mourne Mountains. Continue on the B8 until you reach the village of Hilltown. From Hilltown, follow the signs for the Mourne Mountains. You will eventually reach a small parking area near the base of Slievenagore, which is well-marked. Note that there may be a small parking fee, so keep some change handy.
Public Transportation
To reach Slievenagore via public transportation, first take a bus from Newry to Hilltown. Bus services operate regularly from Newry Bus Station to Hilltown, which is approximately a 30-minute ride. Once in Hilltown, you will need to walk to the base of Slievenagore. Follow the B8 road until you see signs leading towards the hiking trails. Depending on your pace, the walk from Hilltown to the base of Slievenagore might take about 30-45 minutes.
Walking
If you're already in the Mourne Mountains area and prefer walking, you can hike to Slievenagore from nearby trails. Start from the nearest trailhead, which can be accessed from the B8 road. There are well-marked paths that lead directly to Slievenagore. The hike is moderately challenging and may take about 1-2 hours, depending on your fitness level. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring water.
