From Sligo city center, head to the Sligo Bus Station located on Coach Street. Take the Bus Éireann route 440, which travels towards Gorteen. Make sure to check the schedule as buses may not run frequently. After approximately 30 minutes, disembark at the Gorteen stop. From there, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 kilometers to Moygara Castle. Head east on the main road, following signs for Moygara. The castle will be on your left as you approach the village.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from a local shop in Sligo. Start from the center of Sligo and head south on the N4 road towards the village of Gorteen. This route is approximately 12 kilometers and takes about 40 minutes to an hour, depending on your cycling speed. Be cautious of traffic, as this is a main road. Once you reach Gorteen, look for signs directing you to Moygara Castle, which is just a short ride away.
Walking
For those who enjoy walking, you can start from Sligo city center and follow the N4 road south towards Gorteen. The distance is about 12 kilometers, which can take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours on foot. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water. The walk will take you through beautiful Irish countryside. Upon reaching Gorteen, continue to follow the signs for Moygara, which will be located just outside the village.
