After crossing the bridge to Valentia Island, continue to follow the signs for the Bolus Barracks Loop Walk. The trailhead is located on an unnamed road in County Kerry, approximately 10 minutes from the bridge. There is limited parking available at the trailhead, so arrive early, especially during peak tourist season.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Killarney to Portmagee. Check the local bus schedules, as they may vary. Once in Portmagee, you can either walk to the trailhead, which is about 5.5 km away, or arrange for a local taxi service to take you directly to the Bolus Barracks Loop Walk. The taxi ride should take around 10 minutes and will cost approximately €10-€15.
Walking
If you prefer to walk from Portmagee to the Bolus Barracks Loop Walk, follow the R565 road towards Valentia Island.
