From Westport, head to the bus station located on Station Road. Take the Bus Éireann Route 424 towards Oughterard. The bus departs regularly, and the journey will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Oughterard, disembark at the main bus stop. From there, it's about a 15-minute walk to Aughnanure Castle. Head southeast on Main Street, then turn right onto the N59. Follow the N59, and turn left onto the R336 at the roundabout. Continue straight; the castle will be on your left.
Bicycle

If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike in Westport. Start at the town center and head towards the N59. Follow the N59 south towards Oughterard. The distance is about 20 km and should take around 1-1.5 hours, depending on your cycling speed. Upon reaching Oughterard, turn left onto the R336 and continue straight until you reach Aughnanure Castle on your left.
Walking

For those seeking a more adventurous route, you can walk from Westport to Oughterard, although it is quite a long journey. Start by heading south on the N59 towards Oughterard. It's approximately 20 km and will take around 4-5 hours. Once you reach Oughterard, walk down Main Street and turn right onto the N59. At the roundabout, take the exit onto the R336.
