Bus
From Westport, head to the bus station located on Station Road. Take the Bus Éireann Route 424 towards Oughterard. The bus departs regularly, and the journey will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Oughterard, disembark at the main bus stop. From there, it's about a 15-minute walk to Aughnanure Castle. Head southeast on Main Street, then turn right onto the N59. Follow the N59, and turn left onto the R336 at the roundabout. Continue straight; the castle will be on your left.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike in Westport. Start at the town center and head towards the N59. Follow the N59 south towards Oughterard. The distance is about 20 km and should take around 1-1.5 hours, depending on your cycling speed. Upon reaching Oughterard, turn left onto the R336 and continue straight until you reach Aughnanure Castle on your left.
Walking
For those seeking a more adventurous route, you can walk from Westport to Oughterard, although it is quite a long journey. Start by heading south on the N59 towards Oughterard. It's approximately 20 km and will take around 4-5 hours. Once you reach Oughterard, walk down Main Street and turn right onto the N59. At the roundabout, take the exit onto the R336. Continue straight, and you will find Aughnanure Castle on your left.
