Getting There

• Walking

  From the center of Westport, head south on Bridge Street toward the N59. Continue straight until you reach the main road. Once you reach the N59, turn left and walk along the road. You will pass by the Westport House and gardens on your right. Continue straight until you reach the junction with the R336. Turn right onto the R336 and walk for about 8 kilometers. As you approach Oughterard, keep an eye out for the signs pointing towards Glengowla. Follow these signs, and the entrance to Glengowla Mines will be on your right.

• Public Transport (Bus)

  From Westport, head to the Westport Bus Station located on Station Road. Look for the Bus Eireann service heading towards Galway. Purchase a ticket to Oughterard from the ticket counter or directly from the driver. The bus ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Oughterard, disembark at the main bus stop. From there, you can either walk or take a taxi. If walking, head southwest on the N59 and look for signs directing you to Glengowla Mines, which is about 1.5 kilometers from the bus stop.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can book a taxi from anywhere in Westport to Glengowla Mines. Simply ask your hotel reception or use a local taxi service. The journey will take approximately 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Make sure to provide the driver with the address: Glengowla, Oughterard, Co. Galway.
