Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Hiking
From the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve entrance, head towards the main hiking trails. Follow the signs for the 'David's Cave' trail (מערת דודים). The trail is well-marked and starts with a moderate incline. Continue along the path for about 30-40 minutes, enjoying the surrounding scenery. You will pass a few viewpoints where you can take in the stunning views of the Dead Sea. As you approach the cave, you will notice a slight descent; the entrance to מערת דודים is at the end of the trail, marked by a sign.
Guided Tour
Consider joining a guided tour that departs from the Ein Gedi visitor center. These tours typically include transportation to the trailhead and a knowledgeable guide who will lead you to מערת דודים. Ensure you check the schedule in advance and reserve your spot, as these tours may fill up quickly, especially during peak travel seasons.
Walking
If you are staying at one of the hotels in Ein Gedi, you can walk to the Nature Reserve entrance. It’s about a 15-minute walk from most hotels. Once you reach the entrance, purchase your ticket and start your hike as described above. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and carry water, as the hike can be strenuous.
