If you're driving to Grotta Piana from Bari, take the A14 motorway towards Taranto. After about 30 kilometers, take the exit for Monopoli/Polignano a Mare (exit 24). Continue on the SS16 towards Polignano a Mare. As you approach the town, follow signs for the beach (Spiaggia di Lama Monachile). There's parking available near the beach, and from there, you can walk to Grotta Piana, which is accessible from the beach.
Public Transportation
To reach Grotta Piana via public transport, take a train from Bari Centrale to Polignano a Mare. Trains run frequently and take about 40 minutes. Once you arrive at Polignano a Mare station, exit the station and head towards Via Martiri della Libertà. Walk straight for about 15 minutes until you reach the beach area (Spiaggia di Lama Monachile). From there, follow the coastal path to Grotta Piana, which is visible from the beach.
