Train
To reach Varenna from Bergamo, head to the Bergamo train station (Stazione di Bergamo). You can take a bus (Line 1 or Line 6) from the city center to the train station. Once at the station, purchase a ticket to Varenna-Esino. Trains to Varenna typically require a transfer at Lecco. Take the train to Lecco, and then catch a connecting train to Varenna. The total travel time is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive at Varenna station, follow the signs to the town center which is a short 10-minute walk downhill.
Bus
From the Bergamo city center, you can take a bus to Varenna. First, head to the main bus terminal at Porta Nuova. Look for the bus service that goes to Varenna (check the schedules as they may vary). The journey by bus will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. The bus will drop you off in the center of Varenna, allowing you to explore the beautiful lakeside town upon arrival.
