Originally constructed around the year 1000 during the Maritime Republic of Amalfi, it served as a watchtower against Saracen invaders. Over the centuries, particularly after the decline of the Republic in the 1600s, it was transformed into a rustic farmhouse.Today, Castello Lauritano is more of a scenic terrace than a castle in the traditional sense, as it suffered damage from neglect and a partial collapse during the 1980s earthquake. However, its elevated position provides a stunning panorama, encompassing Amalfi's cathedral and towers, the town of Ravello, and Conca dei Marini. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Gulf of Salerno, Punta Licosa, and the Alburni Mountains.While the castle itself may be more of a historical site to observe from afar, the views from its terrace are the main draw, offering a serene escape and a perfect backdrop for memorable photos.
